Modi Unveils Rajagopalachari Statue at Rashtrapati Bhavan

New Delhi, February 22: Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation through his radio program ‘Mann Ki Baat’, emphasizing the importance of moving beyond symbols of colonialism and embracing India’s cultural heritage. He announced a significant event at Rashtrapati Bhavan, where the ‘Rajaji Utsav’ will be celebrated on February 23.

In his speech, PM Modi stated, “During the Amrit Mahotsav of Independence, I spoke about the five principles, one of which is liberation from the mindset of slavery. Today, our country is prioritizing elements related to Indian culture over symbols of colonialism. Rashtrapati Bhavan has taken an important step in this direction.”

He revealed that a statue of C. Rajagopalachari, the first Indian Governor-General of independent India, will be unveiled in the central courtyard of Rashtrapati Bhavan. Rajagopalachari was known for viewing power as a service rather than a position. His conduct, self-discipline, and independent thinking continue to inspire us today.

PM Modi lamented that even after independence, statues of British administrators remained in Rashtrapati Bhavan, while the contributions of great Indian leaders were overlooked. He noted that the statue of British architect Edwin Lutyens would be replaced by that of Rajagopalachari. An exhibition based on Rajagopalachari will also be held during the Rajaji Utsav, running from February 24 to March 1.

The Prime Minister urged citizens to take the opportunity to visit the exhibition at Rashtrapati Bhavan.

Additionally, PM Modi encouraged everyone to celebrate festivals joyfully with their families. He reminded them to remember the mantra ‘Vocal for Local’, urging people to avoid foreign products during festivals like Holi and to embrace indigenous goods. “When you buy local, you contribute to the campaign for self-reliance in our country,” he added.

Regarding the ‘Mann Ki Baat’ program, PM Modi invited suggestions from citizens, stating, “I receive numerous suggestions for ‘Mann Ki Baat’ every month. Your messages reveal the hidden talents across the nation. Many inspiring stories of selflessness and community service have reached people through your efforts. Keep up the good work; I look forward to your messages.”
