Keralas CM to Inaugurate Township for Landslide Victims on February 25

Thiruvananthapuram, February 20: Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan announced that February 25 will mark a new chapter of resilience and strength for the state. On this day, the first phase of the Kalpetta township, built for those affected by the Mundakkai-Choorlamala landslide, will be inaugurated.

The Chief Minister shared on the social media platform X that this event is not merely an inauguration but a testament to the promises kept and the collective effort to rebuild lives.

He stated that when the disaster struck, many families lost everything. The decision was made for all of Kerala to unite and restore hope in their lives. Although the necessary assistance was not fully received, the state did not wait and continued to move forward with the strength of its people.

In the first phase, 178 families will receive secure homes, and land ownership documents (patta) will be provided to these families. The remaining 327 families will also receive land and homes before the next monsoon, ensuring their complete rehabilitation. The construction of the remaining homes is in the final phase.

The Chief Minister emphasized that this journey has not been easy. It faced numerous challenges, doubts, and obstacles, but the people of Kerala supported the government wholeheartedly, moving forward without retreat.

He noted that the township being developed in Kalpetta is not just a collection of buildings; it symbolizes the restoration of dignity, collective resolve, and the indomitable strength of Kerala.

It is important to mention that on July 30, 2024, severe landslides occurred in the villages of Mundakkai, Choorlamala, and Punchirimattam in Wayanad district, Kerala. This devastating event was triggered by heavy rainfall, leading to significant loss of life and many missing individuals.
