BNP Claims Historic Victory in Bangladesh Elections, Says Chairman Tarique Rahman

Dhaka, February 13: Tarique Rahman, the chairman of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), has declared that his party is poised for a “historic victory” in the national parliamentary elections. This announcement was reported by local media on Friday.

According to a report from Xinhua News Agency, BNP’s senior joint secretary Ruhul Kabir Rizvi congratulated the people of the country in a separate statement. He stated that the party has secured a majority of seats in the elections, marking a significant achievement.

Initial counting reports from local media indicate that the BNP appears to have won more than half of the seats across various constituencies. The elections were held on Thursday.

However, reports of electoral fraud, voter bribery, and incidents of violence have emerged from several locations. The law and order situation was reportedly poor in many areas during Bangladesh’s 13th parliamentary elections.

In a related incident, a leader from the Jamaat-e-Islami, named Zainal Abedin, was detained for allegedly distributing money during the voting process. This incident occurred in the Gorai Union of the Mirzapur sub-district in Tangail district.

Tarique Aziz, the assistant commissioner (land) and magistrate of the mobile court, confirmed the incident and imposed a fine of 3,000 Bangladeshi Taka on the accused.

Additionally, there have been reports of violence at several polling stations, with news of a political leader’s death surfacing during the voting process.

Tensions escalated in various locations as voting commenced in the morning. These incidents highlight the fragile law and order situation in Bangladesh and the serious challenges facing security arrangements.
