Mumbai, February 12: The national song “Vande Mataram” has completed 150 years. On this occasion, renowned film director and producer Subhash Ghai shared his thoughts on the patriotic anthem in a unique way.
In a post on Instagram, Ghai celebrated the milestone, stating, “Celebrating 150 years of Vande Mataram.” He urged fans to not only sing the song but to also understand its profound meaning.
Ghai emphasized, “Vande Mataram is our national patriotic song. It reflects the soul and culture of our country. Through this song, we express pride, respect, and love for our motherland, India. We should comprehend its meaning in both Hindi and English so that we can truly feel the essence of the six stanzas we sing. Jai Bharat.”
The national song “Vande Mataram” was penned by Bankim Chandra Chatterjee in the 1870s and featured in his book “Anandamath.” The first two stanzas describe the power of Goddess Durga and the glory of the motherland, while the remaining verses express the beauty and emotions associated with the homeland. Rabindranath Tagore composed the music for it, and it was publicly presented for the first time at the Indian National Congress session in 1896. The song later became a symbol of the freedom struggle and the Swadeshi movement.
The first meeting of the Constituent Assembly on August 14, 1947, began with this song, and in 1950, it was officially declared as India’s national song.
In addition to his filmmaking, Subhash Ghai has focused on his institute, Whistling Woods International, where he has nurtured numerous talents. Recently, students from his school created a short film titled “Rocketship.” The trailer has been released, but there has been no announcement regarding its official release yet.
