Delhi Launches New Air Quality Monitoring Systems to Combat Pollution

New Delhi, February 9: The Delhi government has taken a significant step to tackle air pollution. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta inaugurated six new Continuous Ambient air quality monitoring Systems (CAQMS) today. On this occasion, the ‘Vayu Rakshak’ fleet was also flagged off to monitor air quality and implement pollution control measures across various areas of the capital.

The event was chaired by Delhi’s Environment Minister, Manjinder Singh Sirsa. He stated, “Today, Delhi has taken another strong step in the war against pollution. These new stations will accurately monitor hazardous pollutants like PM2.5 and PM10. Additionally, the 35 electric vehicles in the ‘Vayu Rakshak’ fleet will conduct live air quality monitoring throughout the city, acting as a ‘ground force.’ Furthermore, 100 air protectors have been deployed to ensure stricter adherence to pollution prevention regulations.”

With the addition of these six new CAQMS, the total number of air quality monitoring systems in Delhi has risen to 46. These systems will enable continuous and accurate monitoring of air quality across different regions, assisting authorities in identifying pollution sources and taking timely action.

The ‘Vayu Rakshak’ fleet has been specifically designed to check air quality on-site in various areas and ensure immediate pollution control actions where necessary. This will not only strengthen the monitoring mechanism but also improve ground-level implementation.

The new air quality monitoring systems have been launched at locations including Jawaharlal Nehru University, Indira Gandhi National Open University, Netaji Subhas University of Technology’s West Campus, CWG Akshardham, CWG Delhi Cantt, and Talkatora Garden.

Sirsa emphasized that this initiative is a testament to the Chief Minister’s commitment. “Our government does not merely count problems like previous administrations; we bring solutions and implement them on the ground.”
