
Indore, February 8: A grand wheelchair cricket Tournament was held in Indore from February 3 to February 8. The competition featured teams from Madhya Pradesh, including both men’s and women’s squads. Teams from Karnataka, Punjab, and Haryana also participated in the men’s category, while the women’s competition included teams from Madhya Pradesh and Karnataka.
In a thrilling final match, the Haryana team showcased an impressive performance, defeating Madhya Pradesh to claim the championship title. The final was highly exciting, with Haryana leveraging their experience and strategic play to secure victory.
Throughout the tournament, players captivated the audience with their skills. Many athletes expressed that improved resources, training, and financial support could help them elevate the country’s status in national and international arenas.
Balram, the captain of the Haryana team, stated, “The match was fantastic. We won by 63 runs.”
District Sports Officer Reena Chauhan mentioned, “The Wheelchair Association organized this cricket tournament. The arrangements were excellent, and the District Collector provided significant support, contributing ₹200,000 for the players’ accommodation and meals.”
She assured that all possible assistance would be extended to the players in the future. This tournament was not just a sports event but also a powerful example of confidence, equality, and sportsmanship.
Shehzad Ali, president of the Wheelchair disabled sports Association, said, “Since 2020, we have been organizing tournaments at every level. This is our fifth event, and for the first time, we included women’s wheelchair cricket. Besides Madhya Pradesh, the Karnataka women’s team participated, and we held matches in all formats, including a triangular series.”
Viewer Yuvraj Tiwari, who attended the disabled cricket tournament, remarked, “They are playing great cricket, and I enjoy watching them compete.”
