New Delhi, February 8: The arrival of spring brings noticeable changes in the weather. The combination of bright sunlight during the day and chilly mornings and evenings can lead to Health issues. Therefore, it is essential to adjust one’s diet according to the season.
During spring, many people struggle with sleep-related problems, primarily due to an increase in the kapha dosha. This rise in kapha can cause heaviness at night, insomnia, and digestive issues. Ayurveda considers spring a time of energy and a period when infections can spread rapidly. As temperatures rise, people often include cold foods in their diets, which can lead to fevers and colds. Ayurveda recommends dietary changes in spring to maintain balance and ward off illnesses.
One beneficial dish during this season is moong dal khichdi, which is light on the stomach and does not cause any pressure. Adding a pinch of dry ginger powder can transform khichdi into a medicinal dish, helping to protect the body from the mild chill and promoting better sleep.
In spring, vegetables like bottle gourd, ridge gourd, and pointed gourd are readily available. These should be lightly sautéed and steamed together. They help fulfill fiber requirements and alleviate digestive problems while being rich in vitamins.
Many believe that millet is only suitable for winter, but this is a misconception. Consuming millet in spring can also promote good health. Millet is warming in nature and packed with protein and iron, providing energy and protection against infections. Additionally, drinking light milk, papaya, ginger and honey water, and barley soup is also beneficial.
