Patna, February 7: The arrest of Pappu Yadav, a Member of Parliament from Purnia, in a 31-year-old case has escalated into a significant emotional and political issue. A statement from his mother, Shanti Priya Devi, has stirred considerable attention in Bihar.
Distressed by her son’s arrest, Shanti Priya Devi made an emotional plea, stating, “Release Pappu Yadav. If anything happens to him, we will not spare anyone.”
Expressing her unwavering faith in her son, she added, “Pappu Yadav is not just my son; he is a son of God. He came to this earth to serve.”
She accused authorities of deliberately framing Pappu Yadav for speaking out against injustice and those in power. “A man who has dedicated his life to helping the poor and the oppressed is being portrayed as a criminal,” she lamented. She urged the administration, “Do not harm my son; he cannot hurt anyone.”
Her remarks have further fueled anger among Pappu Yadav’s supporters, many of whom claim the arrest is politically motivated.
On Friday night, around 11 PM, a large police team from multiple stations arrived at Pappu Yadav’s residence in Mandiri. The operation was led by City SP West Bhanu Pratap Singh.
Following a heated exchange between Pappu Yadav and the police, he was taken into custody after legal procedures were completed. The operation was conducted under strict security, with senior officials overseeing the process.
Shortly after his arrest, Pappu Yadav’s health deteriorated. He was initially taken to a hospital for preliminary examinations and, upon medical advice, transferred to PMCH.
After completing medical procedures at PMCH, the police initiated the legal process to present him in court.
This arrest has triggered a wave of political reactions. Recently, Pappu Yadav had raised questions regarding the death of a NEET student, both on the streets and in the legislative assembly.
Opposition leaders, including Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi, have expressed their support for Pappu Yadav, alleging that the action is a political conspiracy orchestrated by the NDA government led by Nitish Kumar and the Bihar police.
Meanwhile, the police and administration have asserted that the arrest was conducted entirely under judicial orders.
The court has placed Pappu Yadav in medical custody, allowing him to remain hospitalized at PMCH under security.
The next hearing is scheduled for Monday, February 9.
