Aizawl, February 7: The Assam Rifles has conducted a significant operation in the border area of Jokhawthar, Mizoram, resulting in the seizure of drugs worth millions of rupees. During this operation, one suspect was also arrested.
According to a statement from the paramilitary force, the operation was based on specific intelligence. The Assam Rifles launched a search operation in Jokhawthar, located in Champhai district. They seized 8.122 kilograms of methamphetamine tablets valued at ₹24.36 crores near the India-Myanmar border.
The soldiers noticed suspicious vehicle movement and initiated a search, leading to the discovery of the drugs. A person named Lalchanhalma was arrested, and the vehicle used for smuggling was confiscated. The seized drugs, the suspect, and the vehicle have been handed over to the Jokhawthar police for further investigation.
Earlier, on February 2, the Assam Rifles, in collaboration with the Cachar district police, recovered a significant cache of heroin. The estimated international market value of the seized heroin is around ₹60 lakhs.
The Assam Rifles and Cachar district police had received reliable intelligence regarding drug trafficking. Based on this input, both agencies devised a coordinated plan and began surveillance in the area.
The operation took place near the Nandankanan Bridge close to the Jirighat market, approximately 8 kilometers west of Jalihura. During the operation, security forces monitored suspicious activities and conducted a search.
The team discovered ten suspicious boxes, and upon inspection, they found narcotics hidden inside. A total of 116.2 grams of heroin was concealed, valued at around ₹60 lakhs.
Security agencies have seized the narcotics and initiated further investigations into the case. Efforts are underway to determine the source of the heroin and its intended recipients, as well as to uncover the network behind this trafficking operation.
