Independent MP Pappu Yadav Transferred to Medical College After Arrest

Patna, February 7: Independent MP Rajesh Ranjan, known as Pappu Yadav, was transferred from Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (IGIMS) to Patna Medical College Hospital (PMCH) on Saturday. His health deteriorated suddenly following his arrest, prompting police to take him to IGIMS that night.

Late Friday night, Patna police arrested Yadav in connection with a 31-year-old case. His supporters claim that the action is politically motivated. Meanwhile, Yadav’s personal secretary alleged that he had to spend the night on a stretcher. A post on Yadav’s Facebook page quoted him saying, “After being kept on a stretcher at IGIMS all night, Patna police are now taking me to PMCH. Those in power and administration are conspiring against me to silence my fight for justice.”

He further stated that the police did not provide him a bed at IGIMS, highlighting the state of healthcare in Bihar. Yadav was arrested from his residence in Mandiri, Patna, late Friday night after arriving in the city that evening.

According to police, he was arrested in connection with a 1995 case linked to the Gardanibagh police station, which was originally filed under the old Indian Penal Code and is now proceeding under the new Indian Penal Code. The charges against him include IPC sections 419, 420, 468, 448, 506, and 120B. Reports indicate that court hearings were ongoing, but Yadav had been consistently absent.
