India Clinches Sixth World Cup Title with Victory Over England

New Delhi, February 7: India has secured its sixth World Cup title by defeating England by 100 runs in the final match of the 2026 tournament. In this historic encounter, Indian opener Vaibhav Suryavanshi delivered a remarkable performance, scoring 175 runs with 30 boundaries.

Winning the toss at Harare Sports Club, the Indian team opted to bat first, amassing a total of 411 runs while losing 9 wickets. They faced an early setback, losing Aaron George for just 9 runs at a score of 20. However, Suryavanshi partnered with captain Ayush Mhatre to build a solid second-wicket partnership of 142 runs.

Mhatre contributed 53 runs off 51 balls before returning to the pavilion. Following his dismissal, Suryavanshi teamed up with Vedant Trivedi to add 89 runs for the third wicket in just 39 balls, pushing India’s score to 251. Suryavanshi’s innings came to an end after he scored 175 runs off 80 balls, hitting 15 fours and as many sixes. Vihaan Malhotra then partnered with Trivedi to add 51 runs, helping the team surpass the 300-run mark.

Malhotra scored 30 runs before being dismissed, while Abhigyan Kundu contributed 40 runs off 31 balls. In the final overs, Kanishk Chauhan played a crucial unbeaten innings of 37 runs, leading India to a total of 411/9.

From the English side, James Minto was the standout bowler, claiming 3 wickets, while Sebastian Morgan and Alex Green took 2 wickets each. Manny Lamsden added one more wicket to the tally.

In response, the English team was bowled out for 311 runs in 40.2 overs. They lost Joseph Moores for 17 runs at a score of 19. Ben Dockins then attempted to stabilize the innings, forming a 74-run partnership with Ben Mays for the second wicket.

Mays scored 45 runs off 28 balls, hitting 2 sixes and 7 fours. Dockins continued to build partnerships, adding 49 runs with Thomas Rave for the third wicket and 32 runs with Caleb Faulkner for the fourth.

England lost their fourth wicket at 174 runs in 20.4 overs and found themselves at 177/7 in 21.6 overs. Caleb Faulkner took charge, scoring 115 runs off 67 balls, including 7 sixes and 9 fours, but ultimately could not lead England to victory.

For India, RS Ambresh was the top wicket-taker with 3 wickets. Deepesh Devendran and Kanishk Chauhan each claimed 2 wickets, while Mhatre took 1 wicket.
