Harare, February 7: India triumphed over England by 100 runs in the final of the U-19 World Cup 2026, held at the Harare Sports Club on Friday. This victory marks India’s sixth title in the tournament’s history.
India has previously won the U-19 World Cup under the leadership of Mohammad Kaif in 2000, Virat Kohli in 2008, Unmukt Chand in 2012, Prithvi Shaw in 2018, and Yash Dhull in 2022.
Australia holds the second position with four titles (1988, 2002, 2010, 2024). Pakistan secured the trophy in 2004 and 2006, while England (1998), South Africa (2014), West Indies (2016), and Bangladesh (2020) have each won it once.
Winning the toss, India opted to bat first. A remarkable innings by Vaibhav Suryavanshi, scoring 175 runs, propelled India to 411 runs for the loss of 9 wickets. In response, England was bowled out for 311 runs in 40.2 overs, making this match the highest-scoring encounter in U-19 World Cup history, with a total of 722 runs scored.
Previously, the highest runs in a U-19 World Cup match were recorded in 2014 when India faced West Indies, totaling 634 runs, and in 2004, when Australia and Ireland combined for 631 runs.
The 100-run victory margin is the largest in U-19 World Cup finals, surpassing the previous record of 79 runs set by Australia against India in 2024.
