Controversy Erupts Over Film Kalki Sambhal Based on 1978 Riots

Moradabad, February 7: The film ‘Kalki Sambhal,’ based on the 1978 Sambhal riots, is facing increasing controversy. The production company, Jani Firefox Media Private Limited, has taken legal action regarding the issue. They have issued a legal notice to senior religious leader Maulana Mamlookurrahman Bark.

The company alleges that Maulana Bark made public statements during the film’s legitimate shooting that were threatening in nature. The notice claims these statements instilled fear and insecurity within the film unit.

Jani Firefox Media clarified that the production of ‘Kalki Sambhal’ is being conducted in accordance with all legal permissions, government licenses, and statutory procedures.

The notice further states that the 1978 Sambhal riots are a historical public event. Filming about these events falls under the right to freedom of expression as guaranteed by Article 19(1)(a) of the Indian Constitution. Attempts to halt the film violate constitutional rights and create mental harassment and insecurity for the film unit.

Referencing historical context, the company noted that public records indicate 184 Hindus lost their lives during the 1978 riots. Attempting to suppress such historical facts raises serious concerns.

The notice demands that Maulana Bark publicly apologize within 15 days, retract all his statements, and provide an unconditional assurance not to obstruct the film’s shooting or production in the future.

Additionally, the company has requested a deposit of ₹5 million into the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund.

The notice warns that failure to comply with these conditions within the stipulated timeframe will result in legal, civil, and constitutional action, for which the recipient of the notice will bear full responsibility.
