Jammu, February 6: Jammu Police has achieved another significant success in its ongoing campaign against drug trafficking and substance abuse. The team from R.S. Pura Police Station arrested a drug peddler near a brick kiln in the Kotli Gala Bana area, seizing a large quantity of banned tablets/capsules along with ₹11.60 lakh in cash. This operation took place during routine patrol on February 5, 2026.
The police team, led by PSI Naresh Kumar (No. 196740/EJX), conducted the operation under the supervision of SHO Inspector Ravi Singh Parihar and the direction of SP Headquarters Jammu and SDPO R.S. Pura. During a routine check, a vehicle was stopped, revealing a significant stash of banned capsules and cash hidden in an orange plastic bag in the front passenger seat. The driver identified himself as Shiva Gupta, son of Naresh Kumar Gupta, a resident of Ward Number One, R.S. Pura Tehsil and District Jammu.
An FIR has been registered at R.S. Pura Police Station under FIR No. 32/2026, Sections 8/21/22 of the NDPS Act. The accused, Shiva Gupta, has been taken into custody. The police have confiscated the prohibited substances, ₹11.60 lakh in cash, and the vehicle. According to police, the seized capsules likely belong to the category of psychotropic drugs such as tramadol and alprazolam, which are strictly prohibited under the NDPS Act and are contributing to substance abuse among youth.
Recently, several drug trafficking cases have emerged in Jammu and Kashmir, involving the supply of narcotics from border areas. Police activity has been intensified in regions like R.S. Pura. Authorities believe that this peddler may be part of a larger network connected to suppliers and customers. Following the arrest, an in-depth investigation is underway to dismantle the entire syndicate.
Jammu Police has reiterated its commitment to eradicate the drug menace. They have urged the public to report any information regarding drug trafficking, sales, abuse, or suspicious activities to the nearest police station or helpline. The identities of informants will be kept confidential, and they will be treated with due respect.
