Mumbai, February 6: The upcoming film ‘Ghuskhor Pandit’ featuring renowned actor Manoj Bajpayee is generating significant controversy. Director Neeraj Pandey has already addressed the ongoing disputes regarding the film.
He clarified that the film aims neither to insult nor to harm anyone. In a recent development, folk singer Malini Awasthi has harshly criticized Pandey, questioning whether the film is part of a larger agenda.
Awasthi reposted Pandey’s statement on the social media platform X, stating, “Mr. Neeraj Pandey, I had great respect for your remarkable work, but please explain, if your story is entirely fictional, why could the film not have a different title?”
She further questioned, “Why use a caste-based name to depict a criminal? Is this part of a Netflix agenda? In today’s world, people are more aware; we will not allow agendas to prevail. Can you even imagine labeling someone from another religion or caste as ‘Ghuskhor’?” Many users have supported Awasthi’s post, suggesting that the controversy is merely a tactic for cheap publicity.
Following the uproar, the Delhi High Court ordered the removal of the film’s title and all related promotional material from various platforms, in response to a petition filed by lawyer Vineet Jindal. Additionally, Neeraj Pandey has shared his perspective on the matter. He wrote a lengthy post on social media addressing the film and its title.
In his clarification, he stated, “Our film is a fictional police drama, and the term ‘Pandit’ is used solely as the name of a fictional character. The story focuses on an individual’s actions and choices and does not comment on or represent any caste, religion, or community.”
