Uttarakhand Receives ₹264.5 Crore for Urban Development Reforms

Dehradun, February 6: Under the leadership of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, the central government has approved a financial incentive of ₹264.5 crore for various reforms implemented by the Urban Development and Housing Department in Uttarakhand. CM Dhami expressed gratitude to the central government for this support.

The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs had directed states to implement various policy reforms related to urban development and housing. In line with this, Uttarakhand has been granted a total of ₹264.5 crore as Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment for the fiscal year 2025-26. This includes ₹3 crore for GIS-based utility mapping (sewerage, drinking water, drainage works), ₹6.5 crore for mapping government lands and buildings, and ₹10 crore to enhance revenue sources at the municipal level.

The ministry allocated the highest incentive amount for reforms implemented under the Housing Department. Under the Urban Land and Planning Reform, the Uttarakhand Housing Department has implemented rules for Town Planning Schemes and Land Pooling Schemes, for which ₹100 crore has been approved.

Additionally, 140 projects have been sanctioned for the revitalization of older urban areas. The ministry has also approved ₹5 crore to implement green building standards in building bylaws. Housing Secretary Dr. R. Rajesh Kumar stated that under CM Pushkar Singh Dhami’s leadership, the Housing Department is committed to providing affordable housing for every citizen of Uttarakhand and positioning the state among the leading states in the country.

CM Pushkar Singh Dhami remarked that the Uttarakhand government is diligently working to implement all directives from the central government. In this context, the approval of ₹264.5 crore for reforms in the Housing and Urban Development Department follows a previous allocation of ₹200 crore for reforms in the mining sector. Uttarakhand is emerging as a model of good governance.
