Trump Launches Discount Drug Website to Lower Prescription Costs

Washington, February 6: President Donald Trump has unveiled a new federal website called TrumpRx.gov, aimed at providing significant discounts on commonly used prescription medications. Trump described this initiative as the largest reduction in drug prices in American history.

According to Trump, this program will greatly benefit American residents. He referred to it as a “very big deal.” At the White House, he stated, “People will save a lot of money and stay healthy.” He explained that consumers can use the site to access discounted prices on prescription drugs through coupons redeemable at pharmacies.

This initiative is linked to electoral promises and the “America First” health policy. Trump noted that wealthier countries purchase American-made drugs at lower prices, while Americans pay three times more. The program aims to ensure that pharmaceutical companies sell drugs at the same prices as those in other countries.

During the launch, Trump emphasized that this initiative implements a “Most Favored Nation” pricing model, where the United States will pay the lowest price offered by any other country for the same medication. He asserted, “We are taking the lowest price for drugs; we will pay the lowest price anywhere in the world.” “That is the price you will have to pay.”

He argued that Americans have long been subsidizing drug costs for patients in other countries. Trump stated, “Americans were effectively subsidizing the cost of drugs for the entire world, and that will no longer happen.”

According to the President, 16 out of the 17 largest pharmaceutical companies have signed agreements for the pricing framework, with expectations for the remaining company to join. Trump mentioned that under these agreements, new drugs introduced in the United States must also be offered at the lowest global price.

Trump linked the pricing agreements to tariffs, stating that he warned other countries that if they did not agree to lower prices for the United States, drug prices abroad would rise. He said, “By doing this, drug prices will increase in other countries. They had to agree, and the reason for their agreement was my tariff policy.”

Mehmet Oz, Administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, stated that consumers will now receive direct discounts. Oz remarked, “Today, you can take advantage of these discounted prices.” He urged Americans to thoroughly check the site before purchasing medications. Oz added, “One in three Americans is turned away from the pharmacy; they cannot afford their medications. That will no longer happen.”

US Chief Design Officer Joe Gebbia explained the details of the site. He noted that it launched with over 40 medications, with more being added regularly.

In a fact sheet, the White House indicated that the site initially includes discounted drugs from AstraZeneca, Eli Lilly, EMD Serono, Novo Nordisk, and Pfizer, with hopes that more manufacturers will join. The site provides access to print or digital coupons based on the medication and manufacturer.

On May 12, 2025, Trump signed an executive order directing agencies to comply with the most favored nation pricing. Following this, letters were sent to pharmaceutical companies, and several pricing agreements were announced starting September 2025. On January 15, 2026, Trump also called on Congress to implement a plan called “The Great Healthcare Plan.” According to the US administration, this plan is essential for transparency.
