Bhubaneswar, February 5: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Manjhi welcomed the India-US trade agreement on Thursday. He stated that this deal will enhance exports of handloom products, seafood, and rare earth minerals, significantly boosting the state’s economy.
Highlighting Odisha’s potential in the handloom sector, Chief Minister Manjhi shared on his official Facebook account, “Whether it’s Odisha’s handloom or modern ready-made garments, the India-US trade agreement will allow our craftsmanship to reach global markets. Exporting will become easier with reduced tariffs, creating new job opportunities for our weavers and handloom artisans. Odisha’s traditional attire will set new trends on a global scale.”
The Chief Minister also mentioned that the technological partnership between India and the US will position Odisha as a key player in the global semiconductor supply chain.
With the rising global demand for rare earth minerals found in Odisha, the state is set to become a hub of advanced technical skills. This agreement will link Odisha’s mineral resources with ‘global technology.’
He emphasized that the India-US trade agreement and tariff reductions will open the American market for seafood from India, empowering fishermen and farmers in the coastal regions of the state.
The Chief Minister noted that following the economic partnership between the US and India, Odisha will emerge as a major center for the ‘blue economy.’
Manjhi stated that the new trade agreement will provide Odisha’s seafood economy with a fresh identity. Due to tariff cuts, the demand for Odisha’s shrimp, fish, and other seafood products in the US market will rise. This will increase the income of fishermen and farmers in coastal areas, further establishing Odisha as a key center for the ‘Blue Economy.’
External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar mentioned on Thursday that the historic India-US trade agreement is in its final stages and will soon be finalized.
