Telangana Prepares for Special Intensive Voter List Revision

Hyderabad, February 5: Preparations for the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list in Telangana have commenced, as announced by the state’s Chief Electoral Officer on Thursday.

Before the SIR, the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) urged political parties to appoint at least one Booth Level Agent (BLA) for each polling station.

Addressing a meeting with representatives of recognized political parties, CEO C. Sudarshan Reddy emphasized the necessity of strong booth-level coordination for this task.

The CEO stated that BLAs should preferably be selected from the local area of the polling station and should collaborate with Booth Level Officers (BLOs).

He noted that having at least one appointed BLA at every polling booth is essential to ensure accuracy, transparency, and timely resolution of issues during the electoral roll revision.

The CEO informed the parties that the SIR is currently underway in 12 states, with the schedule for Telangana and other states expected to be announced in April-May 2026.

Given the limited time for revision after the notification is issued, he mentioned that preparations in the state have already begun.

As part of these preparations, a tabletop mapping has been conducted to link voters listed in the 2025 electoral roll with those covered during the 2002 SIR.

Following this, field-level mapping is being carried out, where booth-level officers are identifying and verifying households, especially in urban areas, through door-to-door visits.

During the SIR, BLOs are expected to visit each polling area three to four times. The first visit will involve distributing counting forms, while subsequent visits will cover households that were previously unavailable.

The CEO clarified that voters not mapped during the preparation phase will still be able to provide their information during the SIR.

Reiterating the role of political parties, the CEO urged them to complete the appointment of BLAs for all polling stations as soon as possible, stating that effective booth-level participation will strengthen coordination, reduce complaints, and ensure that no eligible voter is left out of the electoral roll.

The meeting was attended by Additional CEO V. Venkateshwara Reddy, Deputy CRO Hari Singh, and other officials.
