Ahmedabad, February 5: Adani Energy Solutions Limited (AESL) announced on Thursday that it has become the first company in India, and possibly the world, to deliver one million smart electricity meters to distribution companies (discoms). The company plans to deliver another one million smart meters by the fiscal year 2027.
As a leading Advanced Metering Infrastructure Service Provider (AMISP) in India, AESL has been tasked with installing 25 million smart meters across five states.
The company stated that it is currently installing 25,000 meters daily, the highest figure in the industry.
Kandarp Patel, CEO of Adani Energy Solutions Limited, remarked, “Installing one million smart meters is a testament to our exceptional execution capabilities and deep engagement with distribution companies and consumers.”
He added, “These smart meters are not just devices; they serve as catalysts for providing consumers with real-time usage data, enhancing grid reliability, reducing losses, and enabling efficient energy management. We are committed to playing a significant role in India’s digital energy transformation.”
This achievement comes well ahead of the company’s target to reach one million installations by March 31, 2026, showcasing AESL’s commitment to driving digital transformation in retail electricity distribution. The smart meters provide invaluable data for consumption and grid modernization, supporting the Indian government’s Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS) for nationwide smart metering implementation.
AESL’s smart meter network offers consumers real-time information, increases billing transparency, and strengthens the operations of electricity companies.
For local data hosting, AESL has partnered with its affiliates, including Adani Asyasoft Smart Solutions’ smart metering and IoT division, and AdaniConex, ensuring timely delivery and maintaining platform relevance throughout the contract period with high-quality meter brands.
The company initiated smart metering in 2024 and achieved this significant milestone in just 24 months, making it the fastest installation company in the country.
Under the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS), India aims to modernize its electricity distribution system by replacing 250 million traditional meters with advanced smart meters.
