Dhaka, February 5: Bangladesh is set to hold its 13th parliamentary elections on February 12. In anticipation of the elections, political parties have begun unveiling their enticing promises. Among them, the radical Islamic party Jamaat-e-Islami has released its election manifesto.

In its manifesto, Jamaat-e-Islami pledges to establish peaceful and cooperative relations with neighboring countries, including India, based on mutual respect and fairness.

The manifesto states, “Good relations with neighboring countries: Peaceful, friendly, and cooperative relations will be established with neighboring countries such as India, Bhutan, Nepal, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, the Maldives, and Thailand, based on mutual respect and honesty.”

Emphasizing its foreign policy priorities, the party expressed its commitment to strengthening ties with Muslim-majority countries. It also outlined plans to enhance cooperation with developed nations like the United States, the United Kingdom, the European Union, Japan, and Canada, while increasing diplomatic, economic, and strategic engagement with Eastern Europe, Africa, and South America.

The manifesto highlights, “Engagement with the developed world: Good and mutually beneficial relations will be established with developed countries such as the United States, the United Kingdom, the European Union, Japan, and Canada. Expansion of relations with Eastern Europe, Africa, and South America: Effective measures will be taken to broaden and deepen diplomatic, economic, and strategic relations with countries in Eastern Europe, Africa, and South America.”

Additionally, the manifesto states, “Active engagement with the UN and international organizations: Bangladesh’s active participation in the United Nations and its affiliated agencies will be strengthened to address global challenges such as peace, security, human rights, and economic development.”

Jamaat-e-Islami confirmed its ongoing participation in regional organizations like SAARC and ASEAN. The party further asserted that, in collaboration with the international community, a peaceful and sustainable solution to the Rohingya crisis will be sought, ensuring their safe, dignified, and voluntary return.

The party also pledged to continue Bangladesh’s involvement in UN peacekeeping missions. Furthermore, it committed to supporting and collaborating on creating a transparent, orderly, and legal migration management system. Ahead of the elections on February 12, Jamaat-e-Islami’s manifesto promises a robust and cooperative foreign policy with several countries; however, it notably does not mention Pakistan directly.
