Navanshahr, February 5: In a recent exchange between Union Minister Ravneet Singh Bittu and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, Congress MP Amrinder Singh Raja Warring defended Gandhi, questioning, “What crime is it to call a traitor a traitor?” He emphasized that Gandhi did not insult the Sikhs but directed his comments towards Bittu. Singh noted that Bittu, who once looked up to Gandhi, is now making false accusations against him, despite Gandhi extending a hand for reconciliation.
The confrontation occurred in the Parliament, where Gandhi reassured Bittu, saying, “Don’t worry, you will return.” However, he also labeled Bittu a traitor during the exchange, prompting Bittu to accuse Gandhi of attempting an attack.
Responding to Bittu’s allegations, Singh asserted that it is the Congress Party and Rahul Gandhi who have elevated Bittu to his current position. He criticized Bittu for disparaging the party that still supports his family, as Bittu’s son-in-law is seeking a ticket from the same party. Singh remarked that Bittu’s language towards Gandhi is unbecoming, given the favors he has received from him.
Singh further highlighted that Bittu owes his political career to Gandhi, who supported him in multiple elections. He recalled how Gandhi insisted that Bittu contest from Ambika Soni’s constituency and later moved him to Ludhiana when he faced defeat. Singh reiterated that Gandhi has not insulted the Sikhs but has only addressed Bittu’s actions, pointing out that Bittu previously did not even wear a turban.
On the suspension of eight MPs, Singh stated that they were suspended for opposing the denial of speaking time to Gandhi. He described their peaceful protest when Gandhi joined them, only to be confronted by Bittu, who provocatively asked, “Did you return after winning the Kargil war?” Gandhi’s response was simple: “Hello, my friend, traitor.” Singh questioned the severity of calling a traitor a traitor.
