Odisha Launches Innovative Caravan Tourism Initiative

Bhubaneswar, February 5: Odisha’s Deputy Chief Minister, Pravati Parida, inaugurated three caravan tourism vehicles near Dhauli on Wednesday, aimed at boosting the state’s tourism sector.

According to an official statement, caravan tourism offers a unique and luxurious way for tourists to explore various locations, providing enhanced flexibility, privacy, and freedom of movement. The initiative features custom-built vehicles equipped with sleeping areas, kitchens, bathrooms, and air conditioning.

During the event, Deputy Chief Minister Parida stated that these caravans will allow tourists to experience Odisha’s serene natural landscapes at their own pace, supported by well-designed facilities that combine comfort and sustainability.

She also noted that caravan tourism is well-established in several European countries. Odisha’s entry into this segment aims to attract young travelers, adventure enthusiasts, and those seeking to explore diverse locations through experience-based and nature-oriented Travel.

Addressing the gathering, Babu Singh, the MLA from Bhubaneswar-Ekamra, emphasized that this initiative will help tourists explore new destinations with greater comfort and safety. He praised the state government’s efforts in this regard.

In his welcome speech, Dipankar Mohapatra, Director of the Tourism Department, mentioned that caravan tourism will also help disperse tourists beyond traditional sites, supporting balanced regional development and alleviating pressure on conventional tourist hotspots.

Launched under the Viability Gap Funding (VGF) model by the Odisha tourism Department, the initiative is managed by Sand and Pebble Tours. The department has identified key tourist destinations with significant potential for caravan-based experiences, including Hirakud, Similipal, Daringbadi, Devmali, Talsari, Pentha, Manglajodi, Jiranga, and other clean locations across the state.

The inaugural journey commenced to Talsari in Balasore, known for being one of Odisha’s most tranquil and untouched beaches. A couple, Ananda Prasad Padhi and Archana Padhi, received the first tickets as customers for this journey.
