Chennai, February 4: KA Sengottaiyan, a senior leader of the TVK party and chief coordinator of its high-level administrative committee, announced on Wednesday that he will file his nomination for the Gobichettipalayam assembly seat in the upcoming Tamil Nadu elections on February 6. This move is expected to strengthen the party’s grassroots presence in the western regions of the state.
Sengottaiyan made the announcement after inaugurating the party’s new office in Vellankovil, near Gobichettipalayam, where he engaged with party workers and local officials.
He stated that the party is continuously expanding its organization and is actively preparing for the 2026 assembly elections.
Responding to recent political discussions, he dismissed allegations that TVK workers participated in the AIADMK’s Rasipuram event. He clarified that those seen holding TVK flags were actually AIADMK workers, and the situation has been misrepresented.
Sengottaiyan emphasized that the party’s growth is a natural outcome of increasing public support, not a result of confusion or defection.
He also addressed criticism regarding a dance performance during the third anniversary celebration of the party’s founder, Vijay. He explained that the dance was performed at the request of supporters during a devotional song and questioned why similar cultural events by other political leaders are not scrutinized.
Reiterating his full support for Vijay, he mentioned that the announcement for the party’s next statewide outreach campaign will be made soon.
Sengottaiyan refuted AIADMK leader Dindigul Srinivasan’s allegations against Vijay regarding unaccounted funds, stating that such claims require solid evidence. He warned political opponents against making baseless accusations for electoral gain.
When asked about the party’s electoral strategy, including the possibility of contesting alone or forming alliances, he refrained from giving a clear answer, indicating that the silence on alliances is a strategic decision.
Sengottaiyan expressed confidence that TVK will emerge as a decisive force in the 2026 assembly elections.
In response to Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman’s statement that TVK will not impact the BJP’s vote share, Sengottaiyan asserted that the election results will demonstrate the party’s strength and reveal which political party’s support has diminished.
