Patna, February 4: Bihar’s Finance Minister Bijendra Prasad Yadav presented the budget for the financial year 2026-27 on Tuesday. The government claims this budget will create new opportunities for youth, farmers, and women, fulfilling the vision of a developed Bihar.
However, the opposition has dismissed the budget as hollow. They argue that the government has failed to consider the interests of the people of Bihar. The Grand Alliance is preparing to confront Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s government in the assembly over this budget.
A meeting of the Grand Alliance legislative party was convened in Patna, attended by legislators from Congress, RJD, and CPI(ML). Tejashwi Yadav led the meeting, where discussions focused on the budget presented by the government. Plans were made to challenge the government on issues such as employment, education, health, and women’s empowerment.
After the meeting, RJD legislator Ranvijay Sahu stated that the situation in Bihar is dire, and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is unwilling to engage in dialogue. He emphasized that under Tejashwi Yadav’s leadership, they would hold the government accountable, asserting that the administration is glossing over critical issues. Sahu highlighted the increase in atrocities against women in the state, while Kumar remains silent. He insisted that the Chief Minister must answer their questions.
Congress legislator Abhishek Ranjan described the meeting as a routine discussion focused on Bihar-related issues and future strategies.
RJD legislator Bhai Virendra criticized the budget as excessively brief—only two pages long—and expressed astonishment at its content. He noted that despite their smaller numbers, their resolve is strong, and they will vigorously raise the overlooked concerns of the people of Bihar in the assembly.
