Delhi Capitals Make History by Reaching WPL Final for Fourth Time

Vadodara, February 4: The Delhi Capitals have made history by securing a spot in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) final for the fourth time. They achieved this milestone by defeating the Gujarat Giants by seven wickets in a knockout match held at the BCA Stadium on Tuesday. This victory marks the largest target chased in WPL playoffs, as the Capitals successfully pursued 169 runs.

In the previous three seasons, the Delhi Capitals reached the finals but were unable to clinch the title. Interestingly, the team that won the eliminator match in those seasons went on to win the trophy. This time, the Capitals have a ‘golden chance’ to break their title drought.

Batting first, the Gujarat Giants scored 168 runs, losing seven wickets. Beth Mooney led the charge with an unbeaten 62 runs off 51 balls, including six fours, while Georgia Wareham contributed 35 runs. For the Delhi Capitals, Chinelle Henry was the standout bowler, taking three wickets, while Nandini Sharma claimed two wickets, and Minnu Mani took one.

In response, the Delhi Capitals chased down the target in just 15.4 overs. Lizelle Lee scored 43 runs off 24 balls, hitting nine boundaries, while captain Jemimah Rodrigues added 41 runs. Additionally, Shefali Verma contributed 31 runs, and Laura Wolvaardt remained not out with 32 runs.

This is the first time in WPL history that the top four batsmen in a single innings have all scored over 30 runs. Georgia Wareham took two wickets for the Giants, while Rajeshwari Gayakwad claimed one.

It’s worth noting that in the 2023 WPL final, the Delhi Capitals faced defeat against the Mumbai Indians. They reached the final again in 2024, only to lose to RCB. In 2025, they fell short against the Mumbai Indians once more. Now, the Delhi Capitals are eager to end their title drought.
