Trump Calls for Stronger Federal Role in U.S. Elections

Washington, February 4: President Donald Trump has called for a stronger federal role in upcoming elections across the United States. He argues that the federal government should intervene in states that fail to conduct legal and honest elections.

Speaking to reporters after signing a major spending bill at the White House on Tuesday, Trump questioned the current system of state-run elections. He stated, “I want elections to be honest. If a state cannot conduct elections properly, then I believe the federal government should take action.”

Trump also mentioned that states act as agents of the federal government in election matters. If they cannot count votes legally and honestly, someone else should take on that responsibility.

When a journalist pointed out that the U.S. Constitution assigns election responsibilities to the states, Trump replied that while states can conduct elections, they must do so honestly.

He reiterated allegations of irregularities in past elections, citing cities like Detroit, Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, and Atlanta, claiming there was a shocking level of corruption in those areas.

Additionally, Trump reiterated his call for voter ID requirements, stating, “We need voter ID. Who wouldn’t want voter ID? Only those who want to cheat.”

The President linked election integrity to the governance of the country and public trust, asserting that the federal government should not tolerate flawed elections.

On immigration, Trump defended his administration’s strict policies. When asked whether immigration agents should obtain search warrants in some cases, he firmly stated, “I haven’t thought about that. I’m not considering search warrants.”

Republican Senator Lindsey Graham supported Trump, criticizing so-called ‘sanctuary city’ policies, which he claims promote illegal immigration. He noted that as long as these policies exist in 12 states, people will continue to come. Illegal immigration must be stopped.

Graham indicated he is preparing legislation to eliminate these policies, emphasizing that this issue will be significant in upcoming elections.

Trump asserted that strict measures have led to a significant drop in crime rates. Incidents of border crossings have decreased, and violent crime is at its lowest level in a century. He claimed that the crime rate is now the lowest since 1900.

He also accused states like Minnesota and California of widespread fraud, suggesting that if fraud is addressed, the budget deficit could be eliminated without cuts.
