New Delhi, February 4: Prime Minister Narendra Modi shared an inspiring message based on ancient wisdom with the nation on Wednesday, highlighting Laughter as the best medicine and its significance.
On the social media platform ‘X’, Modi posted a Sanskrit verse, stating, “औषधेष्वपि सर्वेषु हास्यं श्रेष्ठं वदन्ति ह. स्वाधीनं सुलभं चैवारोग्यानन्दविवर्धनम्..”
The essence of this verse conveys, “It is said that among all medicines, laughter is undoubtedly the best, as it is easily available at no cost and enhances health and joy. Therefore, keep smiling.” A 53-second video explained the meaning of this Sanskrit verse in Hindi and English.
Since December 2025, Modi has been sharing Sanskrit verses (inspirational shlokas) to connect timeless Indian traditions with modern policy and public discourse. He frequently incorporates these verses into his speeches, ‘Mann Ki Baat’, and social media posts.
By publicly presenting Sanskrit verses, Modi aims to consciously link contemporary governance with India’s civilizational knowledge. He uses ancient shlokas to elucidate modern priorities such as development, sustainability, gender justice, ethical leadership, and National Responsibility.
On December 8, Modi emphasized the enduring relevance of Sanskrit in India’s cultural and spiritual life. He also mentioned the daily broadcast of these verses on Doordarshan’s Suprabhatam program. The Prime Minister noted that each morning, this program features a Sanskrit verse that weaves together values and culture.
In a post on ‘X’, Modi stated, “Every day, a Sanskrit verse is presented in the Doordarshan Suprabhatam program. This includes various topics from cultural to spiritual. This is today’s verse.”
