New Delhi, February 4: On Wednesday morning, dense fog and cold weather significantly impacted daily life in the capital city of Delhi. The heavy fog affected both traffic and airport operations.
Visibility was low in several areas during the morning hours, causing traffic to slow down and inconveniencing commuters. The combination of chilly winds, fog, and overcast skies created numerous challenges for residents.
In light of the weather conditions, Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport issued an advisory for travelers, confirming that Low Visibility Procedures (LVP) were in effect.
An official update from Delhi Airport stated, “Low Visibility Procedures are currently in place at Delhi Airport. All flight operations are continuing as usual. Passengers are advised to contact their respective airlines for updated flight information.”
While flight operations remained largely normal, passengers were advised to stay in touch with airlines due to the possibility of delays.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) released a bulletin indicating that light to dense fog was expected in several parts of Delhi on Wednesday morning. Light clouds are anticipated throughout the day, which may reduce sunlight.
According to the IMD, most areas will experience light fog, but some locations, especially in the early morning hours, may see dense fog. A yellow alert has been issued for the entire city due to fog and haze.
The low visibility in the morning is expected to affect road traffic. Authorities have advised extra caution on major roads and highways. Travelers are urged to drive carefully and maintain a safe distance while on the road.
In terms of temperature, Delhi is expected to see a maximum of 21 to 23 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature may hover around 9 degrees Celsius. Over the past few days, the minimum temperature has ranged between 8 and 10 degrees Celsius, which is below normal and has increased the chill during the morning and night.
The IMD has indicated that cold weather is likely to persist in the coming days, with fog being a common occurrence in the mornings. Residents, especially children and the elderly, are advised to take precautions against the cold and remain vigilant during foggy conditions.
