Pune, February 4: In a shocking incident in Pune, Maharashtra, the mother of BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawala was struck by an unidentified driver. She sustained serious injuries and is currently hospitalized. The driver fled the scene after the incident.
Shehzad Poonawala took to social media to share the news, stating, “A person deliberately ran over my mother with their car, leaving her severely injured and fleeing the scene. She is scheduled for surgery. Please pray for her.”
He described his mother as a kind and compassionate individual, expressing that such an event is deeply painful for her at this stage of her life. He urged the public to pray for her swift recovery.
Along with his post, Poonawala shared a hospital photo showing his mother lying in bed surrounded by medical monitoring equipment, with her face covered.
He has also appealed to the Pune City Police for the swift arrest of the perpetrator, ensuring that they do not evade justice. Additionally, he informed the Chief Minister’s office about the incident.
As of now, the Pune police have not issued an official statement regarding the incident. It is anticipated that they will soon apprehend the suspect and take strict action against them.
Shehzad Poonawala is a national spokesperson for the BJP and a lawyer by profession. He was previously affiliated with the Congress party but left in 2017 after publicly questioning Rahul Gandhi’s leadership. He later became a vocal critic of Congress and formally joined the BJP in 2021.
