Major Accident on Mumbai-Pune Expressway Causes Traffic Standstill

Pune, February 4: A serious accident occurred on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway late Tuesday evening when a tanker carrying propylene gas overturned near the Adoshi tunnel. Following this incident, all lanes heading towards Mumbai were completely closed for over 12 hours.

The accident took place around 6:15 PM when the tanker lost control on a curve and flipped over. Upon receiving reports of a gas leak, authorities promptly shut down the lane from Pune to Mumbai. The highly flammable nature of propylene gas created a dangerous situation in the area.

Emergency teams quickly sprang into action, including the NDRF, fire services, IRB police, and chemical specialists. These teams worked tirelessly to contain the gas leak and right the tanker. Fortunately, no casualties were reported from the accident.

However, the incident resulted in a massive traffic jam stretching 25 kilometers, leaving thousands of vehicles, including buses and trucks, stranded. Passengers faced significant difficulties, and the lack of facilities exacerbated the situation.

Authorities clarified that traffic would not resume until experts declared the area safe. Initial estimates suggest that normal traffic flow may not return until Wednesday morning.

Officials have urged travelers to avoid this route and consider alternative paths, such as the old Mumbai-Pune highway. They also recommended staying updated with live information from the Maharashtra Highway Police due to the ongoing risk from the gas leak.

In light of public safety, the road was closed. Residents can contact the police for any information. Thankfully, no injuries occurred due to the tanker overturning. Emergency teams are actively working, and control over the situation is expected soon. Timely information helped avert a major disaster.
